Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Sri Lanka offers visa-free travel to Indian passport holders, but obtaining an eTA before entering the country is mandatory.

eTA Extension

Visitors wishing to stay beyond 30 days must apply for an extension, as the eTA is valid for up to 30 days.

Online Arrival Card

Recommended after eTA; can be done 3 days before arrival or on arrival for Indians.

Printed eTA copy

It is mandatory to carry a printed copy of the eTA on the day of travel.

Passport Validity

The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of return and should have at least two blank pages.

Do Indians need a visa to visit Sri Lanka?

Indian passport holders do not need a visa to visit Sri Lanka. However, they need to apply for an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter Sri Lanka.

Can I extend my stay with the eTA?

To stay beyond 30 days, visitors must apply for an extension at the Department of Immigration and Emigration, ensuring compliance with Sri Lanka’s visa regulations.

What type of eTAs does Sri Lanka offer?

Sri Lanka issues eTAs for business trips, tourism, and transit purposes. This eTA is valid only for short-term visits of up to 30 days.

What happens if my travel dates change after getting the eTA?

If your new travel dates fall within the validity period of eTA, then you can continue your trip with the same eTA. However, if your new travel dates fall outside the validity period of the eTA, then you will need to apply for a new eTA.

What documents do I need to present at immigration?

It is mandatory to carry a printout of the Sri Lanka eTA when you travel. Save a digital copy of the eTA for convenience. At least 3 days before arriving at Sri Lanka, you must fill the online Arrival Card. Proof of funds for your stay in Sri Lanka Proof of return/onward flight tickets
